These wasps are known by other names like spider hunting wasp and spider wasp. They sometimes build a nest or just bring the spider to a hole and place their eggs in them. I wouldn’t consider these wasps a threat. There isn’t any control method suggested since they just appear randomly out in the environment. They aren't aggressive, so if you are smart enough to leave them alone(are you listening little brother?)they won't bother you. They are interesting, so much so, they were voted the state bug of New Mexico.

WOW what a fascinting story. I feel sorry for your little brother. So apparently these wasps are not social and don't make nests with it's kind? we have something similar around our area in Orlando. Is there another name for them and how do you rid of them?

No Alisa. Those ants are dangerous and have been responsible for many deaths: However, while the term 'crazy ant' is officially identified with this species, there are other closely related ant species that are also called "crazy ants." At least one authority has suggested that Paratrechina longicornis receive the common name "longhorned crazy ant" to prevent it being confused with other species referred to as "crazy ant." Other authorities have used the name "black crazy ant" (Watterer 2008).
I hope this clears up the confusion for you.

Hi Joyce,

First, please let me apologize for taking so long to get back to you about your inquiry. Thank you for sending us your question. As the accompanying article states, it would be the European hornet under your porch.
http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsheets/european-hornet

You did the right thing calling in the professionals to get rid of these aggressive pests. I certainly hope this will take care of the problem once and for all. The following site will give you some ideas to discourage their return:
http://www.ehow.com/info_12171272_natural-remedies-discouraging-wasps-nesting.html

I hope you find this answer satisfactory.

What is the name of this hornet?
This nest was under my porch.
Finally had to get a professional to get rid of the nest.
The nest was very hard to find and very large, but after 2 treatments was able to eradicate it. He wasn't sure what the name of the hornet was, but I would like to know.Thank You

It is possible to get a bug in your ear. Good news is they can't reach your brain as once thought. You can try hydrogen peroxide in your ear to kill the bug. Be careful you don't poke anything into your ear trying to remove the bug. A famous explorer ended up dying trying to remove a bug from his ear. Maybe going to a doctor would be your best option. Hope your problem gets solved soon, because it must be really 'bugging' you.

Wow, aside from being kind of gross, this was really interesting and in a weird way it actually makes sense, especially the part about eating and eating until we get the protein we need. Don't you wish your body had a more direct way of saying, "Hey, I need more protein!!!" that might make us stop eating Krispy Kremes until we finally get there?
